The Seattle Mariners have already begun their offseason activity this winter, signing Josh Naylor to a big extension over the next five seasons.
Now, they turn their attention to the two other free agents who've departed: third baseman Eugenio Suarez and second baseman/designated hitter Jorge Polanco.
Robert Murray of Fansided.com shared an update on Polanco's free agent market, and while the Pittsburgh Pirates are expressing interest, his connection with the Mariners is still strong, as there's mutual interest in a reunion.
Jorge Polanco, Mariners have mutual interest in free agent reunion
"On Polanco: he has interest from the Mariners, and Seattle would like him back," Murray reports. This is a great sign that a new deal is possible between the two sides.
Polanco returning to Seattle would help round out their infield, even if Suarez doesn't return. The Mariners can use Colt Emerson as a versatile infielder, giving Seattle the flexibility to alter their offseason plan for their infield if need be.
But, with mutual interest between Polanco and the Mariners, a free agent reunion would be a great way to avoid any headaches this offseason for the Seattle front office.

Polanco is 32 years old and coming off his 12th season in Major League Baseball. He finished the 2025 season with a.265 batting average and an.821 OPS in 138 games.
In the postseason, just his fifth in his MLB career and first since 2023, Polanco hit.208 with a.686 OPS. But he had three incredibly clutch moments, with a walk-off in the extra-inning Game 5 matchup against the Detroit Tigers during the ALDS.
Also in the ALDS against the Tigers, Polanco hit two home runs off of Tarik Skubal, which were massive hits, as the rest of the Seattle lineup struggled to get to Skubal.
Polanco coming back to the Mariners after two successful seasons would be ideal for both sides. It was a great pairing, and amid their mutual interest in free agency, he could continue to cement a legacy in Seattle by re-signing with the team this offseason.
