San Francisco Giants predicted to sign George Kittle's brother-in-law in free agency image

A bit of a family reunion could be coming to the Bay Area.

The San Francisco Giants will have a chance this offseason to bring aboard the brother-in-law of San Francisco 49ers star tight end George Kittle.

That player: Cody Ponce.

Ponce is a right-handed starting pitcher who was once a second-round pick. He didn't pan out on his first go around stateside, and he crossed the Pacific to play in Korea.

In the KBO, Ponce grew immensely as a pitcher, and it's going to land him a contract to join someone's starting rotation this offseason.

"Ponce, a former second-round pick, went to Korea, remade his body, gained three ticks on his fastball, learned a splitter and is going to land the largest deal for a KBO-to-MLB jump," ESPN's Jeff Passan writes. "His stuff will play in a rotation -- perhaps in San Francisco, where he can join his brother-in-law, 49ers tight end George Kittle."

That'd definitely be a cool outcome.

Passan, the most plugged-in insider in baseball, likely has a sense that it's a move that could really happen, too.

The Brewers originally drafted Ponce in 2015 out of Cal Poly.

He made it to the majors for two seasons with the Pirates, pitching in 20 games and having a 5.86 ERA with 48 strikeouts in 55.1 innings.

Ponce is evidently a different pitcher now. It's tough to know exactly how much he deserves to get paid in a contract, but he'll get a solid payday and a spot in an Opening Day rotation. Not bad after needing to take a detour to get to this point.
