The San Francisco Giants announced Monday morning that they have parted ways with two-year manager Bob Melvin.

To say that Melvin's short tenure at the helm in San Francisco was disappointing is not far off, as in those two years, he had a combined 161-163 record and did not finish above third.

President of Baseball Operations for the San Francisco Giants, former Giants catcher and projected first ballot Hall of Famer Buster Posey, did not mince words after the team announced that they parted ways with the 63-year-old manager.

“The last couple of months have been both disappointing and frustrating for all of us, and we did not perform up to our standards. We now turn our focus to identifying a new leader to guide us forward," Posey said.

The 2025 season was looking like the turning point for the Giants organization, recording a staggering 40-29 record to begin the season and keeping pace with the NL West juggernaut in the Los Angeles Dodgers for the top spot in the standings. That wasn't until Posey decided to make his first big move in his new position, trading for three-time All-Star Rafael Devers on June 15, which in turn, resulted in tough stretches for San Francisco that they would experience for the entirety of the season.

Posey had already made impactful decisions in his first year as President of Baseball Operations, such as inking their biggest free agent in the offseason and pulling off their biggest trade acquisition in the teams history.

If this tells Giants fans anything, it shows that their old captain, who now holds a higher position in the front office, wants nothing but for the city of San Francisco to strive like it once did in the early 2010s.
