MLB insider worries Giants are making a 'mistake' amid bleak offseason plans image

The San Francisco Giants entered the offseason with a need in the starting rotation, one that needed to be addressed in some capacity.

They've made a few moves, signing Tyler Mahle to a $10 million deal and Adrian Houser to a $22 million deal. Neither of them are big name additions, but they are solid pickups.

But, for MLB insider Robert Murray of Fansided.com, he believes the Giants are making a mistake. Not necessarily with a starting pitcher, but by their overall lack of involvement in the elite free agent and trade targets this winter.

MLB insider fears Giants are making a mistake this winter

"Still, I don't expect a major addition - nothing like Rafael Devers - which feels like a mistake," Murray writes, "Go out and add a meaningful name!"

Murray wants the Giants to land a top name this winter, whether it's in the starting rotation, an outfielder, or a new second baseman.

While adding a starter might not be as high a priority with Houser and Mahle on the team, someone like Ranger Suarez, Zac Gallen, or Framber Valdez shouldn't be off the board just yet. They would be great pickups, even if it gives the Giants six starters.

In the outfield, the Giants have been linked to Kyle Tucker, but Murray doesn't expect them to actually add him. But he wishes they would, as adding a player like Tucker is the Giants' best chance at contending with the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West.

And at second base, Bo Bichette, Ketel Marte, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. Are all possible trade targets, along with Brendan Donovan (who they've been strongly linked to before this winter).

Any of those additions would be great ones for Buster Posey and the Giants to make. But Murray doesn't expect any such blockbuster move to come, and he believes that's a mistake for the Giants.

There's still plenty of time to add one of those players, but for now, Murray is concerned the Giants are making a mistake this winter by not being involved in those markets as a serious landing spot.
