The San Francisco Giants will be in the market for one or more starting pitchers to add to their rotation.
Logan Webb and Robbie Ray will lead the top of the staff, and Landen Roupp is likely to be the No. 3 arm. Webb received a fourth-place finish in the 2025 National League Cy Young voting.
Outside of those three starters, there are a lot of question marks surrounding the rest of the Giants' rotation.
Among the potential names San Francisco could show interest in: Japanese right-hander Tatsuya Imai, according to MLB Network's Jon Morosi.
Giants showing interest in Imai
Imai, posted by Nippon Professional Baseball's Saitama Seibu Lions, has until January 2 to sign a contract with an MLB club.
He had a 1.92 ERA in 24 games last season and averaged 9.8 strikeouts per nine innings. Imai throws his fastball in the mid to upper 90s and a slider, sinker, changeup, and splitter.
Morosi thinks he would be a perfect fit with the Giants.
"The Giants have already shown interest in Imai, and I believe in many ways he is the perfect player for the San Francisco Giants," Morosi said on MLB Network. "In so many ways, I think Imai is the perfect fit for that ballpark. It's a great environment to pitch in, and his pitch mix is a little similar to [Kodai] Senga. He is a really, really, good pitcher."
If the Giants were to sign Imai, they would have to pay the Lions a posting fee. In 1964, San Francisco signed the first Japanese player in MLB history, left-handed pitcher Masanori Murakami.
