The San Francisco Giants, back in July, did a little bit of dealing before the MLB trade deadline.
Turns out, there was almost more.
The San Francisco Chronicle's Shayna Rubin just reported that another deal was "briefly considered," one that would've sent away Patrick Bailey, the phenomenal defensive catcher.
"There isn't a strong motivation to trade Bailey," Rubin added, which suggests this was just a team seeing what was out there.
But even opening the thinking on trading Bailey is fascinating.
He's won the last two National League Gold Gloves.
He was named the top defensive player in all of baseball for 2025 by Sports Info Solutions.

Bailey is under Giants control through the 2029 season. He won't even start arbitration until next offseason.
Just 26 years old, Bailey can hold down the Giants' catching spot for each of the next four seasons.
Trading him likely would've required fantastic value in return.
Instead, the Giants have their stud catcher back for years to come.
It's probably not a trade rumor that will come up again, because Bailey is simply too valuable.
