On paper, it's a bit hard to see why the Athletics didn't protect Daniel Susac in the Rule 5 Draft.
The San Francisco Giants took advantage. They worked a deal with the Minnesota Twins, who took Susac with the No. 4 overall pick in Wednesday's proceedings and then sent him to the Giants in a trade announced by both teams.
For those Giants fans wondering: Yes, Daniel Susac is the younger brother of former Giants catcher Andrew Susac.
The younger Susac can rake, too.

He had an.832 OPS in Triple-A in 2025.
Susac was the No. 19 overall pick back in 2022. It's pretty quick to give up on a first-rounder who can hit.
He's definitely got pop:

There must be concerns about Susac's ability to stay behind the plate, and there's always the element of his numbers being a bit inflated by playing in the Pacific Coast League.
But anyone who can both catch and hit a bit has value.
The Giants will have to keep Susac at the MLB level in 2026 to retain him long-term. It seems like he can be a backup to the reliable Patrick Bailey and do just fine.
This might just turn out to be a steal.
