There have been plenty of teams around Major League Baseball willing to spend big this winter. The San Francisco Giants, despite being in a division with the Los Angeles Dodgers, have not tried matching their spending.

They've signed Adrian Houser, Jason Foley, Sam Hentges, and, most recently, Tyler Mahle this winter. But, in a division with the Dodgers, San Diego Padres, and Arizona Diamondbacks, the Giants need to make more moves.

And yet, the update from ESPN insider Jeff Passan will frustrate Giants fans. Despite having the means to be active like the top teams in the league, the Giants are not showing the motivation needed to get a deal done.

Giants' lack of motivation in FA will frustrate fans

"They've got a very top-heavy payroll," Passan writes, "and with Willy Adames' salary taking a leap next year, they would seem to have room this year to add one of the big names still out there. Whether they've got the motivation remains to be seen."

This update from Passan, indicating the Giants have the space needed to sign a top free agent, but might not due to a lack of motivation, is a very frustrating update for the Giants.

Buster Posey and the Giants have what it takes to sign a top free agent. But there are no indications they plan to do so this offseason.

Framber Valdez, Ranger Suarez, Tatsuya Imai, Bo Bichette, and even Kyle Tucker could be options for the Giants this offseason.

But, based on this update from Passan, barring a change of heart, it doesn't look like any of those top free agents will make their way to San Francisco this winter.

With a need in the rotation, at second base, and in the outfield, the Giants would do well to land a top free agent at one of those spots.

Even a trade, for someone like Brendan Donovan, Ketel Marte, or another top infielder/starter/outfielder, would make a lot of sense for the Giants.

And yet, they lack the motivation needed to get any of those deals done. The space and money are there, but the Giants aren't currently planning to get involved.

This update from Passan is incredibly frustrating, as it reveals that, if the Giants wanted to, they could get involved in the market. And instead, they're not planning to do so, sticking with their current roster or targeting lesser free agents and trade targets this winter.
