Don't let the San Francisco Giants' 81-81 record in 2025 fool you, their lineup is full of hot bats.
From Willy Adames to Matt Chapman to even Rafael Devers, who was traded to The Bay back in June, if injuries hadn't gotten in the way of the team, who knows how much of a challenge they could have been to the Dodgers or Padres.
And now, if the offseason goes in their favor, they could get another hot stick on the team.
Giants In the Mix to Land Munetaka Murakami
In a recent report from MLB insider Mark Feinsand, the Giants were named as a team that could potentially have a chance to land Munetaka Murakami, a first and third baseman for the Tokyo Yakult Swallows of Nippon Professional Baseball.
Murakami set the Nippon single-season home run record in 2022, belting 56 long balls, and also was a big star on the 2023 World Baseball Classic-winning Japanese team.
As to whether he will fit with the Giants is another story, as Matt Chapman is one of the best third basemen in the majors, and the Giants already have first base and designated hitter duties fulfilled on the team, the main positions that Murakami is penciled in at.
Not to mention, all of Murakami's star teammates from that 2023 WBC team, Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Roki Sasaki, are in Los Angeles with the Dodgers, the Giants' most notable rivals, as if their lineup isn't already stacked with three Hall of Fame-caliber players at the top of the order.
In addition to the Giants, the Dodgers, Mariners, and Red Sox are also expected to join the sweepstakes for the power hitter, per Feinsand.
