The San Francisco Giants are looking to make some additions this winter in free agency or by way of a trade. There are two clear positions of need for the Giants.

While the most obvious is the starting rotation, with Justin Verlander a free agent and a hole in the rotation, the other top need is at second base. While the Giants were likely to scour the trade market, something changed recently in the free agent market.

As Mark Feinsand of MLB.com suggests, Bo Bichette has expressed a willingness to make the transition from shortstop to second base to open up his free agent market. Now, with a chance to pair Bichette up the middle with Willy Adames, the Giants are a suitor.

"According to sources, the two-time All-Star has let potential suitors know that he is ready, willing and able to move to second base," Feinsand writes, "... The Dodgers, Red Sox, Giants, Mariners and Ranger as also potential fits."

While Bichette's top landing spot might be a return to the Toronto Blue Jays, the Giants, interested in a second base upgrade, are now a potential landing spot for the star infielder.

Bichette is a 27-year-old free agent who could be a great addition for the Giants' offense. While he's not an option as a shortstop thanks to Adames, his willingness to move to second base opens the door to a Hiants deal.

The potential future second baseman is coming off a strong season with the Blue Jays. As a core member of an offense that made the World Series, Bichette hit.311 in the regular season with an.840 OPS.

Once the postseason began, despite being banged up, Bichette played in the World Series, hitting.348 with a.932 OPS. He was a great player for Toronto in 2025, and while he could wind up returning in 2026, the Giants are now an option.

It won't be cheap, as the Giants will need to sign him to a deal well north of $100 million total. The San Francisco front office might not be on board for such a deal, but the appeal of an infield with Rafael Devers, Bichette, Adames, and Matt Chapman is very alluring.
