Joey Wiemer didn't stick around long enough to ever put on a San Francisco Giants uniform.
The Giants traded for Wiemer on Nov. 21, sending cash to the Miami Marlins for the outfielder.
On Wednesday night, though, the Giants designated Wiemer for assignment.
They needed to open up a roster spot for the newly signed pitcher Jason Foley.
Wiemer could pass through waivers and stick around, or he could be claimed by another team.
He was a strong player in MLB as a rookie with the Brewers in 2023, with 13 home runs.

Wiemer has played sparingly at the MLB level in the past two seasons.
The 26-year old, 6-foot-4 centerfielder is originally from Sylvania, Ohio.
He was a fourth-round pick by the Brewers in the 2020 MLB Draft out of the University of Cincinnati.
Since his breakout rookie season, Wiemer has:
- Batted.154 with the Brewers in 19 games in 2024
- Worked a walk in his lone plate appearance for the Reds in 2024
- Hit.236 with a.715 OPS in 27 games for the Marlins in 2025
Now, Wiemer may be looking for another baseball home.
His speed, defense and intriguing power make Wiemer a decent player for some team to take a chance on. The Giants felt the roster spot was more key for Foley, though, and have risked losing Wiemer so soon after getting him.
