Giants could steal the top free agent if they are willing to spend big image

Now that we are in the offseason, teams are starting to put together their plans for signing free agents this winter. One free agent that will garner much of the attention will be Kyle Tucker.

Tucker is coming off a fantastic season with the Chicago Cubs, where he played in 136 regular-season games, hitting.266/.377/.464 with 22 home runs, 73 runs batted in, and 25 stolen bases.

Plenty of teams come into the winter looking to acquire an elite outfielder, like the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers. Outside of the clubs' big pockets, they are both postseason contenders and will be attractive destinations.

Thanks to The Athletic's Doug Kezirian and Borgata director of race and sports Thomas Gable, top teams have been given their odds to sign Kyle Tucker. Here, they list the Dodgers and Yankees as the two obvious choices, but they also mention the Philadelphia Phillies, San Francisco Giants, New York Mets, and Chicago Cubs as other teams in the running to sign the top free agent.

The Giants are an interesting mention here. They are coming off a season where they traded for Rafael Devers, and with Tony Vitello at the helm, the team's philosophy could change.

"Even after trading for Rafael Devers, the Giants know they need to add offense to the lineup. Whether they can compete with the likes of L.A. And N.Y., though, remains to be seen."

If the Giants want to land Tucker, they will need to outbid the league's top clubs. If they can do this, it could make up for the last few years where San Francisco has missed out on top free agents. While Tucker is no Aaron Judge, he surely would provide a huge boost to the lineup.
