Giants' Buster Posey reveals 'perfect alignment' behind historically passionate Tony Vitello hire image

Over the weekend, rumors started heating up around the San Francisco Giants. Initially, Tennessee’s Tony Vitello was considered a dark horse candidate, but within just a few weeks, those rumors escalated into an official offer from the Giants.

“Everything we hear is that he does want this. And the Giants are going to have to make it worth his while to leave Tennessee... The ball is in his court, this is the guy they've offered the job to,” The Athletic’s Andrew Baggarly said.

However, Vitello took his time making an official decision on the managerial opportunity in front of him. That hesitation itself was a testament to how torn he was about leaving the place he had built.

“I don't think some understand how odd it is that Tony Vitello didn't immediately accept an offer to become an MLB manager. For a college coach to even consider staying is testament to how torn he is about the decision. Giants are a good org with arguably the world's best park,” WBIR’s Wes Rucker wrote.

On Wednesday, Vitello accepted the offer to become the next manager of the Giants. Posey quickly addressed why he chose the historic hire of Vitello.

“Throughout our search, Tony’s leadership, competitiveness, and commitment to developing players stood out. His ability to build strong, cohesive teams and his passion for the game align perfectly with the values of our organization. We look forward to the energy and direction he will bring, along with the memories to be made, as we focus on the future of Giants baseball,” Posey said.

There is a huge emphasis on player development, as Vitello has seen nearly 60 of his players get drafted during his tenure at Tennessee. This risky hire could quickly turn into a home run.

It’s going to be fun watching this unfold. The next season will be full of firsts. Posey has undoubtedly got his guy.
