TL;DR

  • * Fernando Tatis Jr., Corbin Carroll, and Sal Frelick are the National League Gold Glove finalists for right field.
  • * Tatis Jr.
  • leads in Outs Above Average and Defensive Runs Saved (+15), making a strong case for his second Gold Glove.
  • * Carroll could win his first Gold Glove, while Tatis Jr.

When looking at Gold Glove finalists, the National League's top three for the Gold Glove Award in right field are stacked. It has come down to San Diego Padres' Fernando Tatis Jr., Arizona Diamondbacks' Corbin Carroll, and Milwaukee Brewers' Sal Frelick.

All three have been defensive wizards this season, and this could be he tightest race of them all. Each has its own argument for why they can win.

However, only one of these players can win, and that will be revealed on Sunday. It will either come down to Carroll winning his first, or Tatis or Frelick taking home the second Gold Glove of their careers.

While Carroll and Frelick performed well, Fernando Tatís Jr. Outperformed them in a few important defensive categories. He has a higher Outs Above Average and finished the year with an impressive +15 Defensive Runs Saved.

This should be enough to overtake the other two, and Bleacher Report's Zachary Rymer shares a similar take.

"Tatis nonetheless got more value out of his arm, which baserunners generally avoid testing. He also easily topped right fielders with +15 Defensive Runs Saved, so chances are he'll add a second Gold Glove to go with the one he won in 2023."

You cannot take anything away from what Carroll and Frelick did. They were excellent with the glove this season, but it might not be enough to take down one of the most feared right fielders in the game.
