The San Diego Padres head into the offseason with a sour taste in their mouth. They lost Game 3 of the Wild Card against the Chicago Cubs in what became a controversial last inning.

However, they will look to return in 2026 as a much stronger team. But, they will likely have to restructure their starting rotation with Dylan Cease and Michael King set to become free agents this winter.

They will also likely have to replace some key bats in the order. Luis Arraez and Ryan O'Hearn are hitting free agency, and both played a big part in the club's offense.

Those are not the only players that the Padres could lose over the winter. Closer Robert Suarez has an option on his contract, and could test free agency. He recently spoke about this crucial decision that is looming, via MLB.com's AJ Cassavell

"I've got to think about all of those decisions I'm going to make," said Suarez. "And then we'll move forward once I do. ... I'm always going to be grateful for this organization. They gave me an opportunity to play here, be in the Major Leagues. I'm very grateful for them. Always will be."

Suarez stated that he will mull over his options and decide what may be best for him and his future soon. If this were his last season in San Diego, he was sure to thank the organization and let them know how much they mean to him, giving him a chance in the big leagues.
