The San Diego Padres will likely be aggressive at this year’s trade deadline. At 54-45, the Padres are well within reach of both the National League West division lead, and a top Wild Card spot.
In need of outfield help, the Padres have been linked to Miami Marlins outfielder Kyle Stowers, who has broken out as a legitimate All-Star level bat.
Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller detailed why he believes the Padres make sense for the Marlins’ slugger.
“He is under team control through 2029, but he's already 27 years old and has been hotter than the sun as of late,” Miller wrote. “Among others, San Diego would be highly motivated to acquire the left fielder.”
Stowers first entered the big leagues in 2022, when he played for the Baltimore Orioles from then until 2024. Stowers initially struggled to find his way, appearing in just 67 games for the Orioles in that span, hitting just .229 with 4 home runs.
This season with the Marlins however, Stowers has become a star at the plate. This season, he is hitting .295 with 21 home runs and a .930 OPS. Stowers represented the Marlins at the All-Star Game, the first of his career.
The Padres have struggled to get production out of their corner outfield spots, adding a breakout star in Stowers could deepen the team’s lineup, and improve their chances of a deep playoff run.
