The San Diego Padres are always active during the trade deadline, especially with GM AJ Preller in charge. On Sunday against the Pittsburgh Pirates, outfielder Gavin Sheets left the game early after crashing into the outfield wall.
Now, the Padres have more questions about an already-thin outfield outside of stars Jackson Merrill and Fernando Tatis Jr.
Well, one option has re-emerged in trade buzz, and that is Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran, per Dennis Lin of The Athletic.
"As the Padres face a daunting upcoming schedule and glaring holes at the bottom of their lineup, their list of trade targets again includes Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran, league sources told The Athletic. The Padres expressed interest in Duran ahead of the 2024 season."
The Padres also recently placed veteran Jason Heyward on the IL, although his 2025 numbers have been underwhelming.
The Red Sox enter June 2 with a 29-32 record and good for fourth place in the American League East, so there could be some moves made especially with the franchise shifting their focus to some younger players.
Duran is hitting .264 with four home runs and 34 RBI, so he has had a decent start to the season, but he is one target the Padres are pondering - again.
In 2024, Duran was an All-Star and hit .285 with 21 home runs, 75 RBI and 34 stolen bases, so a San Diego outfield of Duran, Tatis and Merrill would be a frightening scene for opposing teams.
