The San Diego Padres are still searching for the organization's first World Series title.
If they win the whole thing in 2026, it could be due to the help of a few new hires.
On Wednesday, the Padres announced they had hired Will Myers to be the club's special assignment coach in player development, and Bud Black to be a senior advisor to baseball operations.
Myers played 11 seasons in MLB as an outfielder, eight of them with the Padres from 2015-22. He won the AL Rookie of the Year Award with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2013 and last played professionally in 2023 with the Cincinnati Reds. He's never officially announced his retirement.
Bud Black's new role with the Padres
Black is the second-winningest manager in Padres history, leading the team to a 649-743 record in parts of nine seasons from 2007-15. He was hired as the Colorado Rockies manager in 2017 and was subsequently fired after 40 games of the 2025 season, following a 7-33 start.
Black's role with the Padres will likely include mentorship to players, as well as assisting in player development and scouting.
Craig Stammen will be the Padres' new manager this upcoming season, replacing Mike Shildt.
