The San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers have one of the fiercest rivalries in all of MLB in recent memory. As the season winds down, both are competing for the top spot in the NL West, but their season series has concluded.
Former Padres veteran Eric Rosmer recently reacted to a viral video of Dodgers starter Emmet Sheehan appearing to change out the ball that Pittsburgh Pirates Cam Devanney got his first MLB hit with, and throwing it towards the Dodgers' dugout instead of allowing the Pirates to keep the ball.
Eric Hosmer calls out Sheehan for ball maneuver
Following the game, Sheehan did apologize for switching out the ball, and noted that he did not realize it was Devanney's first MLB hit, and if he knew, he would have directed it towards the Pirates' dugout.
However, that did not stop former Friar Eric Hosmer from voicing his opinion on the incident.
In a post on X by baseball analyst Ben Verlander dissecting the situation, Hosmer commented on it by saying:
"Pending more information…. Another all time scumbag move ⁉️"
Now, it's a bit unclear who exactly Hosmer is directing the "scumbag move" part to. It could be the Dodgers organization as a whole? Maybe pitchers as a whole? It's more likely that he's trying to get at the fact the Dodgers have a "classless" organization, but in reality, the youngster Sheehan himself likely didn't understand what he was doing.
The Dodgers were swept by the Pirates in the series, so Devanney and Hosmer ended up with the last laugh, but Sheehan did tell the media that he would find Devanney the following day and apologize for the mishap.
As for Hosmer, he has not followed up on his statement towards Sheehan, and he continues to post on X regarding other baseball matters, and it's usually his opinion on certain aspects of the sport.
