Things have been exciting for the Pittsburgh Pirates over the last few years. In 2024, Paul Skenes made his debut and, since then, has turned into one of the most complete pitchers in the league.

However, that has not transitioned into a lot of wins. They are coming off a season where they finished last in the NL Central after going 71-91.

But that could all change with the offseason the team is currently having. They have made multiple moves that should put them in a better position for the 2026 season.

Pittsburgh went out and shored up its bullpen by coming to terms with Gregory Soto, but that was not all. They also added both Brandon Lowe and Jake Mangum in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays and signed Ryan O'Hearn to a two-year deal.

Those are quite the additions for Pittsburgh, but they still have a few holes left to fill. One of these holes is who will be playing third base for the team in 2026.

Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller believes the team should go out and sign the best free agent available at the position, Eugenio Suarez.

"[Eugenio Suarez] would make the biggest impact with Pittsburgh. While Pittsburgh's three home run leaders in 2025 combined to hit 49 home runs, Geno did so by himself. They've already acquired 2B Brandon Lowe, but the Pirates are still desperately lacking for right-handed power. They got six home runs and a.573 OPS from their third basemen last season. Would be a night-and-day upgrade that instantly makes them a viable contender for a playoff spot."

Adding Suarez would instantly put the rest of the division on notice. If the Pirates seriously want to see themselves playing meaningful October baseball, this is the move that can get them there.
