Will Trea Turner play in playoffs for Phillies? New timeline revealed for star shortstop image

The Philadelphia Phillies faced a cruel reality on Sunday, as superstar shortstop Trea Turner left the game against the Miami Marlins early with a hamstring injury.

This late in the year, losing Turner to this injury could force the Phillies' shortstop, who's an MVP candidate in 2025, to miss the rest of the season, including the playoffs. But a new report might indicate that such a scenario isn't in the cards for Turnre.

According to Jon Heyman of The New York Post, the Phillies might not be without Turner for as long as some feared. Heyman reports that the Phillies are hopeful Turner could return soon, potentially even before the postseason.

Phillies Could Get Trea Turner Back for the Postseason

"Phillies seem hopeful that SS Trea Turner (hamstring) might be back for the playoffs," Heyman reports, "maybe even a little before."

This report from Heyman is a huge piece of news for the Phillies and Turner. Having a chance to return for the playoffs was a major concern, as his previous hamstring injury (albeit to his left leg) caused him ot miss six weeks.

That timeline would have Turner return too late in the season, deep into the postseason at the earliest. However, Heyman is reporting that the Phillies are hopeful that Turner could return for the playoffs, and potentially, even before the postseason begins.

John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia also clarified on Heyman's report, sharing that Rob Thomson said that Turner has a Grade 1 hamstring strain, which is "better than they thought." The hope is that Turner can return for the postseason, thanks to some good news on Turner's injured hamstring.

While such a return before the postseason might be overly optimistic, the news that Turner might not be done for the year is a good sign for the Phillies. There was a real chance that Turner missed the rest of the 2025 season, but this report helps put a pause to such concern.

Turner has arguably been the Phillies' best player this season. He's become an elite defensive shortstop after struggling the last few years with the Phillies. Turner is also one of the best hitters in baseball this season, leading the NL in hits (179) and batting average (.305).

While Turner will miss some time and likely fall out of the top spot in those categories, he could still return for the postseason. Considering the potential for Turner to miss the rest of the season, which was the initial concern, this report is somewhat a sigh of relief.

It's only a Grade 1 hamstring strain, a significantly better outcome for Turner than initially feared. He can still play a role for the Phillies this October, but for now, the Phillies will rely on Edmundo Sosa and others to take his place in the lineup.
