Phillies set franchise home run record in game against Marlins image

The Philadelphia Phillies play host to the Miami Marlins on Wednesday night, while the Marlins continue to keep their playoff hopes alive.

It's not looking very convincing from the Marlins after the Phillies have put on an absolute display in the batter's box.

With Philadelphia preparing itself for October baseball, the team is now just trying to gain momentum for a strong push in the postseason. On Wednesday, they have been able to do just that.

Phillies set franchise record with most home runs in a game

The Philadelphia Phillies got off to a slow start against the Miami Marlins, who took a second-inning lead on an RBI single by first baseman Eric Wagaman. From there, however, it was all power for the NL East champions.

National League home run leader Kyle Schwarber started off the home run frenzy for the Phillies in the bottom of the third, hitting a 408-foot shot. This would be followed up by two home runs hit by Edmundo Sosa and Bryson Stott in the fourth.

Sosa came up again in the fifth inning and delivered a three-run homer before the Phillies turned the seventh into a home run party.

Schwarber would go on to hit another ball 468 feet into the stands for his second of the night, followed by one from Alec Bohm. Just two batters later, Otto Kemp would knock a two-run blast, followed by Edmundo Sosa for his third of the night.

This made up for a franchise record, eight home runs in a single game for the Phillies.

It seems as if the Phillies are looking as dominant as ever as they prepare for their run to the World Series in October, finishing the game with an 11-1 victory over the Marlins.
