The Washington Nationals are still in a weird spot. On paper, they have some talent, but there’s still a clear need for more.
The hope is for Washington not have to continue to rebuild, but it seems like another year or so is the plan. If it isn’t, there are some veterans who could help, including Rhys Hoskins.
Hoskins, a former Philadelphia Phillies fan favorite, is still looking for a new home in free agency, and a team like Washington could make sense if he’s looking to regain his value.
Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report recently linked Hoskins to Washington when examining the team's biggest needs this winter, adding that they could look at Brady House as an option.
While House would be a decent idea at first, Hoskins makes more sense.
“The Nationals are a logical landing spot for one of the veteran first basemen still looking for a new home in free agency, though they could also look at the second base market after Luis García Jr. Started a couple games at first base in September. Another option is to shift Brady House across the diamond and add a third baseman,” Reuter wrote.
For Washington, this wouldn’t be about having a veteran to help them contend. Hoskins could view them as a stepping stone and possibly look to get moved in the summer.
