The Philadelphia Phillies are going to see a lot of roster changes from 2025 to 2026. Whether it's Ranger Suarez, Harrison Bader, JT Realmuto, or Kyle Schwarber's potential departure in free agency, or a trade of Alec Bohm or Nick Castellanos, change is coming.

But some unexpected change could come in the form of a different trade. Teams around MLB are interested in the Phillies' trio of lefty relievers, and the Seattle Mariners recently were linked to one such player.

According to Adam Jude of The Seattle Times, the Mariners are interested in trading for Phillies reliever Matt Strahm over Tanner Banks and Jose Alvarado.

"The Phillies have three lefty relievers - Strahm, Jose Alvarado, and Tanner Banks - and they have reportedly received inquiries on all three this offseason," Jude reports. "They could choose to move one to address another area of need on their roster."

With the Phillies drawing trade interest on all three of their left-handed relievers, the one who could return the best value would be Strahm. He's only under contract for one more season, but he's the most consistent and arguably the best of this group.

He's 34 years old, and coming off a strong 2025 season where he had an impressive.499 OPS allowed in high-leverage situations, and a 2.74 ERA across 66 games and 62.1 innings pitched with 70 strikeouts.

Losing Strahm would be a big blow to the Phillies' bullpen, but if they instead want to target cheaper, more controllable options in free agency or by way of trade, then moving on from Strahm makes sense.

The 2024 All-Star is the Phillies lefty reliever who makes the most sense for the Mariners to trade for, and with Jude's report, it looks like the Mariners and Phillies could be potential trade partners this winter in a Matt Strahm deal.
