The Baltimore Orioles continue to make it clear that they aren’t standing still, and the rotation additions show that.
With one of the best lineups in baseball, the front office knows the next step is adding proven pitching.
For the Orioles, Philadelphia Phillies free agent Ranger Suarez should fit that mold.
Baltimore has explored both the free-agent and trade markets, and Suarez fits exactly what the team needs.
Signing a pitcher like Suarez would help the rotation without forcing the Orioles to dip too heavily into their prospect depth, which is a factor that Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic considered.
“The Orioles remain in pursuit of another starter, either in free agency or trade. They could sign either of the top remaining free-agent left-handers, Framber Valdez or Ranger Suárez, or even the right-handed Gallen. And they are still deep enough in prospects to pursue the remaining starters available in trade, from Cabrera to Peralta to Washington Nationals lefty MacKenzie Gore,” he wrote.
The free agent aspect is key. It’s also important that Baltimore has prospects, as the Orioles aren’t forced to make a bad trade.
They can spend money or trade prospects; whichever would help them.
Suarez looks like a good fit and shouldn’t be as expensive as some think.
