Phillies president Dave Dombrowski gives clear response to Bryce Harper's future in Philadelphia image

The Philadelphia Phillies’ season came to an end in Los Angeles after a disastrous finish to the year. The loss was heartbreaking, especially following such a special season that saw them crowned NL East champions. The leader of the squad, Bryce Harper, was almost nonexistent in the playoffs — possibly due to welcoming his newborn child.

““It’s an incredible thing. Being able to hold your son for the first time is something that, it's one of the greatest moments of my life. I love my family. I love my kids. I love baseball. But at the end of the day my family means the most to me. I definitely miss them right now,” Harper said.

Things got even more interesting for Harper after Phillies president Dave Dombrowski made comments suggesting that Harper isn’t elite anymore.

“He didn’t have an elite season like he has in the past. I guess we only find out if he becomes elite [again] or he continues to be good...Can he rise to the next level again? I don't really know that answer,” Dombrowski told the media.

Those comments stirred up rumors across the baseball world. The biggest one? That Harper could be a trade candidate. Harper remains under a hefty contract and is still among the league’s best at what he does. Dombrowski, however, was quick to shut those rumors down.

“I've been reading that the Phillies may trade Bryce Harper. That couldn't be further from the truth,” Dombrowski said.

Harper is likely to spend the rest of his career in Philadelphia. Since his arrival, he has helped attract major talent and create some of the most memorable moments the city has seen in recent years.

The last thing left to do is bring the City of Brotherly Love another World Series title. The Phillies nearly did it in 2022 but fell just short against the Houston Astros. Now, it’s clear — Bryce Harper is in Philadelphia to stay.
