The Philadelphia Phillies continue to run it back with a similar core.

They put together strong regular seasons, but so far, this group hasn't gotten it done in the playoffs.

They re-signed Kyle Schwarber this offseason to keep trying, and alongside Bryce Harper and Trea Turner, it's a good group to try and win for the next few seasons.

But eventually, these contracts have the potential to age poorly.

Turner's could grow difficult before it is up. From 2028 through 2033, Turner will be owed just a smidge over $163 million.

Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller wrote this week that that is the third-worst potential "nightmare" contract in baseball.

"Shortstops aren't exactly renowned for their tendency to age like a fine wine," Miller writes. For every Ozzie Smith or Omar Vizquel who managed to have an All-Star season at age 35 or older, there are a few dozen shortstops who abruptly went from really good to replacement level in their early 30s. And Trea Turner will turn 40 before this contract expires."

The thing about Turner's contract is that it won't necessarily be bad in totality.

If he keeps performing to his standard in the next few seasons, he may pay off the deal overall.

But at the tail end, it could be costly for a guy who isn't close to as productive anymore.

Phillies fans will just have to hope Turner is the exception.
