Phillies offseason rumor spells bad news for Alec Bohm's future in Philadelphia image

The Philadelphia Phillies are looking to make some big changes this offseason. Whether it's moving on from Nick Castellanos, calling up a few top prospects like Justin Crawford and Andrew Painter, or signing a free agent, change is coming for Philadelphia.

While the attention so far this offseason is on JT Realmuto and Kyle Schwarber, there's a much more fascinating question being asked by the Phillies this offseason.

According to MLB.com insider Mark Feinsand, the Phillies, for the second straight offseason, are pondering an Alec Bohm decision that would spell bad news for his future in Philadelphia.

Phillies might be searching for Alec Bohm's replacement

"There is also belief around the league that Philly could be in the market for a third baseman (Bregman, maybe?)," Feinsand writes, "which would mean a trade of Alec Bohm."

If the Phillies are involved in the third baseman market this winter, it would almost certainly mean that Bohm would be dealt this winter.

The only scenarios in which a new third baseman is acquired, and Bohm stays, are if Bryce Harper moves back to right field, or Schwarber departs in free agency, and Bohm is held as the backup corner infielder and designated hitter.

Bohm is 29 years old, heading into the final year of club control for the Phillies, and is in trade rumors for the second consecutive offseason.

His best season was in 2024, but after a tough second half, the Phillies couldn't find a trade they were looking for last offseason.

But now, with one year of control left, and interest in a third baseman, and pressure to make changes after back-to-back NLDS playoff exits, Bohm's departure could be imminent this winter.

While he won't draw a ton of trade interest, Bohm's ability to play decent defense at both corner infield spots, and his.287 batting average, and.741 OPS are enough for a team to have some interest.

Bohm is a name to watch this winter, as the long-time Phillies third baseman might be on his way to a new team in a trade as the Phillies explore other third base options this offseason.
