The Philadelphia Phillies’ division race with the New York Mets just continues to get tighter by the day. New York is currently a half game up on Philadelphia at 59-44 overall in the National League East. Both teams have championship-caliber aspirations and are expected to be aggressive as the trade deadline looms.

At just a week away from the July 31 deadline, Jon Heyman of the New York Post and MLB Network has linked the Phillies to one of the American League’s best left fielders, Steven Kwan. In a recent report, Heyman gave insight into the battle over the three-time Gold Glove Award winner.

“The Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres are among the ‘many teams’ that have shown interest in two-time All-Star Steven Kwan,” Heyman revealed. “Kwan has been one of the most popular names mentioned leading up to the July 31 deadline, but it's unclear how motivated the Guardians will be to trade from their main core group.”

Philadelphia is in desperate need of an upgrade in left field as the current starter at the position, Max Kepler, has had a trying 2025 season. Recently, the Guardians have had a bit of a resurgence, meaning that it’s going to take a hefty offer to pry the two-time All-Star away from them.

But now is undoubtedly the time for the Phillies to be as aggressive as possible in addressing this weakness. Because with the current age of this roster’s core, it really is now or never.
