The Philadelphia Phillies have won the National League East this season, for the second straight year. It's an impressive stretch, and it's thanks in large part to two players on offense: Kyle Schwarber and Trea Turner.
They've been some of the best offensive players in baseball this season, and they have the statistics to back it up. Schwarber is having his best power-hitting season, while Turner is hitting the ball better than ever before.
Jayson Stark of The Athletic recently pointed out that both Schwarber and Turner are poised to make some incredible 84-year National League history this season. While it's not a standard Triple Crown, both Schwarber and Turner are on pace to sit atop the leaderboards this season.
Kyle Schwarber and Trea Turner are poised to make some NL history this season
"Has anyone else noticed that the Phillies are about to win a Triple Crown?" Stark writes. "Or at least a tag-team Triple Crown?"
With nine games left to go in the 2025 regular season, Schwarber and Turner are currently the league leaders in home runs, RBIs, and batting average. Schwarber has the home runs (53) and RBIs (128) while Turner has the batting average lead (.305).
If they can maintain their leads in each category, then the Phillies duo, who've hit first and second in the lineup for most of the season, will make some remarkable MLB and NL history.
Stark found that while the 2016 Rockies had players atop the leaderboards in each category, they were tied for the home run title that season. Among teams that've had their players combine for a Triple Crown and not be tied with another player for any category, there are only three teams in history that've done that.
The 1969 Twins with Rod Carew and Harmon Killebrew, and the 1954 Indians with Bobby Avila and Larry Doby, are the most recent ones. But, in the NL specifically, only the 1941 Dodgers (with Pete Reiser and Dolph Camilli) have had a combined Triple Crown before.
As long as Schwarber holds the home run and RBI lead, which is at two homers and seven RBIs, and Turner can hold the batting average lead, then the Phillies duo will become the second pair of NL teammates to lead the league in all Triple Crown categories.

Turner is hurt at the moment and might return before the season comes to a close. But, Nico Hoerner is close behind with a .301 batting average, and behind him, Sal Frelick is next closest with a .296 average. As long as Hoerner, Frelick, and Freddie Freeman (.295) don't get scorching hot down the stretch, Turner should hold onto that lead.
The bigger concern is with Schwarber. Shohei Ohtani is two behind in the home run category, while Pete Alonso is seven behind in RBIs. Aside from those two hitters, no one is close to Schwarber in either category.
With nine games left, all Schwarber needs to do is hit at a minimum of one home run less than Ohtani and six fewer RBIs than Alonso to secure his spot as the NL leader in home runs and RBIs this season.
While the duo won't be awarded anything for this combined feat, it's a cool accomplishment that would highlight how the two have helped the Phillies win the NL East, as well as put them in a spot for a first-round bye, and potentially, a World Series run.
