There are plenty of areas of the roster the Philadelphia Phillies are looking to improve upon this winter. Whether it's the outfield, the bullpen, or even in the starting rotation, Philadelphia is going to be active.

One of the priorities for the Phillies is a hitter who can do damage from the right side of the plate. There aren't a ton of free agent options, but one potential trade target could be very interesting.

Matt Gelb of The Athletic linked the Phillies to Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte. While Bryson Stott's spot would be overtaken, Marte would be more than worth moving on from the fan-favorite Stott.

Phillies linked to Ketel Marte in blockbuster trade

"In a weaker free-agent market, especially for right-handed hitters," Gelb writes, "the Phillies will have to think outside the box. It's why the emergence of two potential trade targets - Arizona second baseman Ketel Marte (a switch-hitter) and Minnesota center fielder Byron Muxton (a righty) - seemed notable."

Philadelphia needs right-handed hitting, and Marte could be an incredible option. He's a three-time All-Star and is incredible in the postseason.

During the Diamondbacks' World Series run in 2023, Marte hit.329 with a.914 OPS, and in his MLB postseason career, his.974 OPS is a very strong number across 21 games played.

In 2025, Marte played second base full-time, and in 126 games, had a.283 average with an.893 OPS. He had 136 hits, 87 runs scored, 28 doubles, 28 home runs, and 72 RBIs.

While figuring out his role on the team with Stott might prove difficult, Stott could be part of the package to land Marte. That package won't be cheap, as Philadelphia would likely have to send top pitching prospect Andrew Painter to make it work.

Marte isn't a rental, as the 32-year-old is signed through the 2030 season on a reasonable six-year, $105 million deal. Philadelphia landing Marte would be a massive boost to the lineup, but a trade doesn't seem likely.

Not only will the price tag potentially price out the Phillies, but the Diamondbacks might not move the All-Star second baseman despite hefty interest.

Trade rumors have come up surrounding Marte, and the Phillies would certainly have interest, but the chances of the Phillies finalizing a deal for the All-Star second baseman are slim.
