During the Philadelphia Phillies series against the Miami Marlins, trade deadline pickup Harrison Bader hit a home run deep into left field. A father grabbed the ball across his row and triumphantly walked back to his seat, handing the ball to his son.
However, a woman came storming up behind him, demanding the ball back as she claimed the father stole it from her. She was up in his face, and eventually, the father gave up the ball, and the woman walked back to her seat.
This interaction instantly went viral, and in the days since, internet sleuths have tried to identify the woman dubbed "Phillies Karen." Days after the incident, the Savannah Bananas mocked "Phillies Karen" in the grumpiest possible way, trolling her for her demanding of Bader's home run ball.
Phillies Karen Mocked By Savannah Bananas
During the Bananas game at Petco Park in San Diego, one of the Bananas' players tossed a ball into the stands, a man grabbed the ball after it had rolled around, and brought it back to his partner, placing it in their glove.
The Bananas' mockery of the "Phillies Karen" incident was posted on their Twitter/X account with the caption "How the Grinch stole a Banana Ball."

But, instead of "Phillies Karen" coming over to demand the ball, the Bananas had someone dressed in a Grinch costume demand the ball, eventually getting it and walking away as Phillies Karen did a few nights earlier.
It's a fitting depiction for Phillies Karen, who essentially stole a home run ball from a kid, akin to the Grinch stealing presents in Whoville. The Bananas' mockery of Phillies Karen is far from the only time she has been mocked and criticized.
This viral moment has gone beyond the baseball world, as many people who aren't even interested in sports can still empathize with the son who lost the home run ball, and vilify the woman who took it.

The manhunt for the "Phillies Karen" has inadvertently impacted an unrelated woman, Cheryl Richardson-Wagner, who wasn't the "Phillies Karen" that people were searching for.
While the young fan ended up losing his home run ball, after the game, Bader had a meet and greet with the young fan and his family, giving him a signed bat, and ending his night on a positive note despite the unfortunate viral moment with "Phillies Karen" earlier in the night.
For now, "Phillies Karen" remains anonymous, but the ire she drew has already sparked broadcasters, baseball fans, and now even the Savannah Bananas to mock the woman, likening her to the Grinch for stealing the home run ball from a child.
