The Philadelphia Phillies continue to look for ways to improve around the margins, and while I’ve been skeptical about that in the past, it’s part of the game.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic had some intel on what the Phillies are doing. None of it is exciting, but he confirmed some rumored names that Philadelphia has been linked to recently.

Left field remains a position the Phillies would like to improve, mainly against left-handed pitching.

The Phillies have shown they’ll add platoon bats, and veteran Randal Grichuk fits that.

Grichuk isn’t a star by any means, but he’s a good veteran and would be a decent platoon option.

“Elsewhere, the Phillies could use a right-handed bat to platoon in left field with Brandon Marsh, and Randal Grichuk is among those in whom they are showing interest. Signing Bregman, Bichette or Tucker likely will be possible only if the market for one of those players collapses, which seems doubtful,” he wrote.

The Phillies are also linked to some of the top names available, but someone like Grichuk is a likelier option. Unless something changes, those stars are probably staying out of reach.

Grichuk has 212 home runs and a 103 OPS+ in his career.
