This offseason, after the Phillies added Brad Keller, Adolis Garcia, and Kyle Schwarber, it has been a very slow one. But things have begun to ramp up lately amid their interest in Bo Bichette.
Thanks to contract talks with J.T. Realmuto coming to an impasse, the Phillies have pivoted to Bichette and are seriously trying to sign the veteran infielder.
A report from Todd Zolecki of MLB.com confirms the Phillies' interest in Bichette, but it also reveals that a dream offseason scenario with Bichette and Realmuto isn't out of the question just yet.
Phillies' dream offseason still possible amid Bichette, Realmuto interest
"Sources have said the Phillies can't sign both Bichette and Realmuto," Zolecki writes, "although things can change."
The Phillies being able to sign Bichette would already be a huge piece of news. Thanks to their ability to ink a long-term deal, more so than the other suitors for Bichette, their odds to sign the former Toronto Blue Jays infielder are strong.
But, more importantly, this long-term deal could help shrink the AAV number a bit to a more reasonable amount, which, in turn, could make the Phillies more able to sign other players this winter.
Realmuto and the Phillies are still linked, with reports suggesting there isn't much interest around the Major Leagues in Realmuto this winter.

The 34-year-old catcher isn't the best after regression in 2025, but if the Phillies could somehow find a way to sign Bichette and keep Realmuto, it would be the dream offseason.
Singing Bichette will cost well over $20 million per year, while Realmuto is likely seeing above $10 million per season.
But, if the Phillies can cut those hits by handing out more years, or adding deferrals, along with making a few savvy trades, they could be in a great spot to sign both.
Their interest in Bichette is already some good news, and now, they might even be able to land Realmuto as well this winter. The odds aren't great, but they aren't zero based on Zolecki's report.
