Phillies expected to explore an Alec Bohm trade again this offseason image

The Philadelphia Phillies lost the NLDS to the Los Angeles Dodgers, and now, the front office will have a lot of difficult decisions to make. After their postseason struggles in the last three years, some major changes could be coming for Philadelphia.

Kyle Schwarber is a free agent, and while the Phillies are going to try and re-sign him, the writing is on the wall for a lot of other Phillies players. Alec Bohm is one of the players most likely to have his roster spot in flux.

According to Jayson Stark of The Athletic, the Phillies are expected to re-up trade conversations surrounding Bohm this offseason. After trade rumors came into the 2025 MLB season, Bohm is now once again going to be subject to more trade rumors.

Alec Bohm is expected to be the center of Phillies trade rumors this offseason

"So get ready for another winter of Bohm rumblings." Stark writes. "Dombrowski tried harder than he let on to move the third baseman last winter. Now, Bohm will be a year away from free agency this winter, with Miller hovering. So that one seems obvious."

As Stark mentions, a reason for the Phillies to explore a Bohm trade, other than the fact they've already had trade talks a year ago and he's in the final year of his deal, is the emergence of top prospect Aidan Miller.

The young infield prospect is one of the Phillies' big-three prospects with Justin Crawford and Andrew Painter, and he is coming off an incredibly impressive 2025 season in the minors. Miller stole over 50 bases and showcased good defense and power.

Moving on from Bohm, in favor of the younger and cheaper Miller makes a lot of sense. Of course, there's a lot of risk involved with whether Miller will continue to hit at the Major League level, but it's a risk worth taking at this point for the Phillies.

Bohm, at 29 years old, will be one year away from becoming a free agent. Instead of keeping him for the 2026 season, the Phillies, as Stark mentions, could explore a trade this winter.

Even if the Phillies don't end up going with Miller as the Bohm replacement, they could instead target a slugger like Alex Bregman to dramatically improve their infield.

Bohm hit .287 this season, but his .409 slugging percentage due to just 11 home runs isn't enough for the Phils. They need more power from their lineup, as Bryce Harper and Schwarber are carrying too much of the load in recent years.

There will be teams interested in Bohm; the only question is what kind of return the Phillies could get. Since he's now a rental, a trade might be easier to complete. Instead of trading for two years of Bohm, one season will be significantly cheaper for another team.

Bohm is coming off a solid season offensively and defensively. He had a .741 OPS while providing positive defense from both third base and first base this season.

Stark expects the Phillies to begin trade talks surrounding Bohm once again this winter as part of a much bigger plan to overhaul the roster in the wake of back-to-back-to-back disappointing playoff exits.
