There are a lot of questions left for the Philadelphia Phillies this winter, with Alec Bohm being one of the biggest ones remaining.
He could be traded this offseason, as was the case with the rumors from a year ago. But, there is a major question as to which team would acquire him, and whether the Phillies actually decide to move on from the longtime third baseman this winter.
An update from The Athletic insider Matt Gelb on Bohm's trade potential reveals the team's plan, one that will likely frustrate any Phillies fans seeking change this offseason.
Phillies trade plan for Alec Bohm revealed by insider
"So, barring Realmuto finding a different home, Dombrowski acted like someone content with the situation. The Phillies could pivot and devote payroll dollars earmarked for Realmuto to a pitcher. Maybe they'd pursue a third baseman, then flip Alec Bohm for further payroll relief to make it all fit." Gelb writes. "But those are all backup scenarios. For now."
Dombrowski and the Phillies are trying to re-sign J.T. Realmuto, and while that's the current priority, they aren't opposed to other additions or moves this winter.
But, for now, a trade of Alec Bohm seems unlikely. Things could change if the right opportunity arises, and a third baseman is readily available. But, barring such a scenario, the Phillies are likely to head into 2026 with Bohm as their third baseman.

Heading into the final year of his current deal, the potential for a Bohm trade is appealing to the Phillies. For some in the Phillies fan base, moving on from Bohm is an ideal offseason move.
While it's still a possibility this offseason, as things currently stand, the Phillies aren't likely to make any move with Bohm. He's likely to stay the third baseman in 2026, and the Phillies will then look to find a new option in the future.
After multiple offseasons full of trade rumors on the All-Star third baseman, Bohm is not expected to go anywhere barring a sudden change.
