Exactly 2,559 days after Max Muncy's legendary 18th-inning walk-off in the 2018 World Series, his now-teammate Freddie Freeman delivered a nearly identical gut punch.
In a six-plus hour marathon that stretched from Monday night into Tuesday morning (ending at 2:51 a.m. ET), Freeman’s walk-off home run propelled the Los Angeles Dodgers to a dramatic 6-5 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays, tying the record for the longest game in MLB history by innings.
While Freeman's blast was the final dagger, the story belonged to Shohei Ohtani. After an already Herculean effort in Game 4 of the NLCS, Ohtani outdid himself, becoming the first player in MLB history to reach base seven times in a postseason game; he ended up reaching it nine times. His final line: 3-for-4 with three RBIs, three runs, two home runs and five walks (four intentional) making him just the second player ever to rack up four extra-base hits in a single World Series game.
Despite Toronto battling back twice from deficits —taking 4-2 and 5-4 leads —the Dodgers answered, with Ohtani’s second home run in the seventh tying it at 5-5. What followed was a 10-inning pitching clinic. The Dodgers’ unsung hero, Will Klein, who had never thrown more than two innings in his career, delivered four masterful scoreless innings from the bullpen, setting the stage for Freeman's historic late-night heroics.
AllSportsPeople stayed awake for an all-time classic and only the second game in World Series history to go 18 innings. For the people that fell asleep, check out out all the action below.

We're going to 15 innings, making it the second-longest game (by innings) in World Series history.

But, the next at-bat, Edman pops out and there are two outs with Miguel Rojas out.
1:30 a.m.: A few pitches after being feet away from a walkoff, Muncy walks. The Dodgers now have a runner on first with one out.
1:25 a.m.: Will Smith came five feet away from winning the game for the Dodgers.

1:07 a.m.: Call — who was acquired from the Washington Nationals in the middle of the season — pops up and Edman is not able to tag from third. With Ohtani coming up, the Blue Jays once again choose to walk him.
Then, Schneider and Toronto decide to walk Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman is up with the bases loaded in extras.
Freeman was up with the bases loaded in extras at the first World Series game at Dodger Stadium in 2024, and we know how that ended.
1:06 a.m.: Rojas gets a bunt down and Edman advances to third.
Though Rojas is out, Edman is only one base away with Alex Call up and one out.
1:03 a.m.: Tommy Edman starts the bottom of the 13th with a bang, hitting the ball deep to right field and strolling into second with a double.

Clayton Kershaw — who is set to retire after the season — is coming in with the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the 12th inning.
Can Kershaw deliver one more signature moment? We're about to find out.
12: 30 a.m.: After Kirk walked to start the inning — and Tyler Heineman took his place on first — Straw grounded out to first on a bunt.

There are two outs and no runners on.
11:38 p.m.: The game is tied 5-5, and the Blue Jays opt to bring in closer Jeff Hoffman in for the ninth inning.
Though the Blue Jays cannot win the game, Hoffman will face critical batters in Pages, Ohtani and Betts.
11:34 p.m.: With two outs, Sasaki walks Kirk and the Blue Jays now have Myles Straw up.
But, Straw grounds out to first, and the Dodgers head to the bottom of the ninth with a chance to win the game.
11:30 p.m.: Game 3 has been full of electric moments on the bases, and there's another in the ninth.
With Isaiah Kiner-Falefa on first, Varsho hits a liner to first, which is bobbled by Freeman. But, Edman went and scooped up the error, and he threw to third before Kiner-Falefa was there, and the base runner is out.

11:10 p.m.: It's a pitching change for Los Angeles.
With Barger and Gimenez — who hit a single — on base, the Dodgers take out Treinen, and it's now Roki Sasaki in.
Sasaki signed with the Dodgers this offseason as one of the highly-anticipated free agents.
11:07 p.m.: While it looked like Betts had an easy out to first on a Barger grounder, an error causes the Blue Jays player to be safe at first.
Toronto has a runner on with no outs.
End of the seventh inning: Blue Jays 5, Dodgers 5
11:02 p.m.: It's 5-5 at the end of the seventh.
