Unlike his previous start, when he was somewhat surprisingly removed 66 pitches into an ALCS Game 7 gem, the Rays starter couldn't be surprised at Kevin Cash taking the ball out of his hand. He had been fortunate to enter the fifth inning against the Dodgers after allowing five runs through the fourth. He knew right away the one-out walk he issued to Max Muncy would mark the end of his outing.
Tampa Bay needed something beyond special from Morton to stand a chance in its 6-2 World Series Game 3 defeat. His tight-pants-wearing counterpart, Walker Buehler, took a no-hitter into the fifth inning and struck out 10 batters across six frames.
