The Boston Red Sox were thought to be interested in free agents Pete Alonso and Kyle Schwarber.
In the end, Alonso went to division rival Baltimore, while Schwarber returned to Philadelphia.
That leaves the Red Sox needing to find a new free agent bat to make things feel better.
MLB.com's Manny Randhawa came up with six such options in a new article.
These are his choices, not listed in any particular order:
- Alex Bregman
- Bo Bichette
- Eugenio Suarez
- Ketel Marte
- Kazuma Okamoto
- Jorge Polanco

OK, so technically, Marte would be a trade. He's currently under contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The other five are free agents and very much in play.
Bregman would be a reunion after he spent his first season with the Red Sox in 2025.
Getting Bichette would be taking a star from division rival Toronto.
Suarez and Polanco are both free agents from the Mariners and are both older players who can still get the job done.
Okamoto comes from Japan with some mystery but is thought of as a reliable bat.
Somehow, Boston has to get one or two of these deals done.
