MLB Draft order 2023: Updated list of picks for all 30 teams in Round 1 & competitive balance image

The MLB Draft order is set for this season, as the Pirates decide if they're going to spend on the premium pick of Dylan Crews or go for someone else at No. 1.

The Pirates won the first ever MLB Draft lottery this season, giving them the first overall pick of the 2023 draft at Lumen Field in Seattle during All-Star Weekend. The Nationals will be picking second, while the Tigers go third.

There is a ton of college talent in this year's draft, with Crews as the headliner. Underneath him is LSU teammate Paul Skenes, Wake Forest pitcher Rhett Lowder, and Florida outfielder Wyatt Langford.

In the non-college sphere, outfielders Walker Jenkins and Max Clark stand among the best.

Notes:

— The Seattle Mariners have the 29th pick thanks to Julio Rodriguez's Rookie of the Year win through the Prospect Promotion Incentive.

— The Mets and Dodgers had their picks moved down 10 slots due to exceeding the league's luxury tax limit.

— The Nationals had the best chance to get the No. 1 overall pick, but the Pirates took the league's first draft lottery for the No. 1 overall pick.

— Competitive balance picks go to the 10 teams with the smallest markets or revenue pools.

The top five picks in this year's MLB Draft have reached a nearly universal consensus.

LSU teammates Dylan Crews and Paul Skenes are expected to go Nos. 1 and 2, Florida's Wyatt Langford at No. 3 to the Tigers, and high schoolers Walker Jenkins and Max Clark are expected to go four and five to the Rangers and Twins, respectively.

From there, things are far more unpredictable. There are a lot of pitchers and shortstops with first-round grades, and as shortstop becomes a more expensive position, it's raising the premium on the job.

Bryce Eldridge is also an intriguing two-way prospect. Although he's likely to come into the league as a hitter, he has shown strong pitching prowess out of James Madison High School in Vienna, Va.
