Coming out of Pool C in Phoenix, Mexico is going to be fielding a fun roster in the World Baseball Classic this year.

The results haven't been there in the WBC yet, with Mexico never having made it out of the second round. But the roster it's fielding in this year's event, along with a manageable pool, could give Mexico its best shot of making a run yet.

Dodgers pitcher Julio Urías, Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk, and Rays outfielder Randy Arozarena are some of the biggest names to grace this roster. But there are plenty of role players to go around.

Mexico's tournament will start against Colombia and its first round will conclude against Canada. It will have a marquee game against the United States on March 12 at 10 p.m. ET.

It's going to be tough for Mexico, but it doesn't need to win its pool to make it out, it merely needs to take first or second. Mexico has the second-best odds to win Pool C, per FanDuel, at +450. So it has a solid chance of making it to quarterfinals.

Can Mexico make it to the quarterfinals and prep itself for the deepest run in team history? The journey begins March 11, and we'll know in due time.

Mexico World Baseball Classic 2023 roster

Mexico has a few headliners on its roster, including Dodgers pitcher Julio Urías, Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk, and Rays outfielder Randy Arozarena, who was born in Cuba and became a Mexican citizen in 2022.

However, there are plenty of names who stand out on the Mexico roster besides the bigger ones. Rowdy Téllez has joined the roster after hitting 35 home runs with the Brewers last year. He's accompanied by utility man Luis Urías, and the Rays are being represented by Isaac Paredes and Jonathan Aranda.

The outfield features some serious speed, including the Diamondbacks' Alek Thomas and Red Sox center fielder Jarren Duran, who is joined by teammate Alex Verdugo, a key part of the trade that sent Mookie Betts to Los Angeles.

Patrick Sandoval of the Angels is also on the roster after posting an ERA of under three last season. He and Urías have the potential to be a powerful 1-2 southpaw punch at the top of the Mexico rotation.

How does the World Baseball Classic work?

The World Baseball Classic will see four games of pools for every team. Pools are broken into A, B, C, and D. Pool A is being played in Chinese Taipei, Pool B will be in Tokyo, Pool C is in Phoenix, and Pool D is in Miami.

The top two teams from each pool will advance, leaving eight total and 12 teams eliminated. This is different from past years, which spawned new pools after pool play concluded (pools E & F). Instead, there will just be quarterfinal and semifinal games, followed by the championship.

All games will take place over the course of two weeks -- March 8 - March 21.

In the quarterfinals, the teams emerging from Pools A & B will play in Tokyo and the teams from Pools C & D will be in Miami.
