JUMP TO:

The Detroit Tigers and Seattle Mariners will square off in Game 5 of the 2025 American League Division Series on Friday, October 10. The winner will advance to the American League Championship Series to face the Toronto Blue Jays in a best-of-seven showdown for a spot in the World Series.

Detroit will send its ace, AL Cy Young frontrunner Tarik Skubal, to the mound. Skubal posted a 13-6 record with a 2.21 ERA during the regular season, the second-best mark in the majors. He started Game 2 of the ALDS, allowing two earned runs over seven innings but did not factor into the decision.

Seattle will counter with its own ace, George Kirby, setting up what should be a classic pitcher’s duel. Kirby started Game 1, surrendering two earned runs on six hits over five innings. Like Skubal, he didn’t factor into the decision as the Mariners ultimately fell in extra innings.

The Sporting News is tracking LIVE updates for scores and highlights from Game 5 of the 2025 ALDS between the Tigers and the Mariners.

All times ET.

Bottom of the First Inning

8:24 p.m. -- Skubal gets Randy Arozarena to lightly hit one back to the mound. Skubal fires it to first, and Torkelson digs it out of the dirt for the first out of the inning.

Skubal starts Cal Raleigh 3-0, but then battles back to a full count. Raleigh sends the seventh pitch of the at-bat into left field for a single. Skubal then struck out Julio Rodriguez on three straight pitches for the second out of the inning. Jorge Polanco battled in his at-bat, but struck out on six pitches to end the inning.

Top of the First Inning

8:14 p.m. -- Kirby starts the game off with a strike, an 86 mph slider down the middle to Kerry Carpenter. The Tigers outfielder laced one to shortstop, and it hit off J.P. Crawford's glove for the first hit of the game.

Kirby responded by punching out Gleyber Torres on three straight pitches. Riley Greene then grounded to second, but the Mariners only got the lead runner and no double play. Spencer Torkelson struck out swinging to end the frame.

Pre-Game

8:00 p.m. -- The Mariners have one of the deeper rotations in the playoffs. Seattle manager Dan Wilson says he is ready to showcase it with Luis Castillo, Logan Gilbert and even Bryce Miller available out of the bullpen if needed.

7:35 p.m. -- Mariners fan Jameson Turner is in the stands for the series finale. He went viral on social media for catching a Cal Raleigh home run in Detroit while wearing a shirt that said "dump 61 here."

6:45 p.m. -- Lefty Tarik Skubal will take the mound for Detroit. He went 13-6 with a 2.21 ERA and 241 strikeouts. Skubal's ERA and strikeouts numbers were the second-highest in the league this season.

6:15 p.m. -- Here is how the hometown Mariners line up for the series finale.

6:00 p.m. -- Here's how the Tigers will line up for Game 5.
