The AL Wild Card Series kicks off Tuesday afternoon as the Tigers travel to Progressive Field to face the Guardians.

Detroit enters the postseason on the back of a narrow 4-3 defeat to the Boston Red Sox on Sunday. Cleveland, meanwhile, closed out its regular season in dramatic fashion, edging the Texas Rangers 9-8.

The Tigers stumbled their way in, barely holding on after a near-total collapse to sneak into the wild-card. The Guardians, on the other hand, pulled off nothing short of a resurrection, storming back from the brink to steal the division crown. But does any of that really carry weight now that October baseball is here?

This matchup isn't just fresh — it's familiar. Not only are these clubs squaring off for the third time in a matter of weeks, but it's also a sequel to last year's ALDS thriller. That series went the distance, with Lane Thomas' Game 5 grand slam off Tarik Skubal sealing the Guardians' dramatic triumph.

For the series opener, Detroit will turn to ace Tarik Skubal (13-6, 2.21 ERA). The Guardians have yet to reveal who will take the mound.
