The Athletics are no longer associated with Oakland as they make the transition to Las Vegas. But, they are playing home games in Sacramento, and it has been a bit of a tough time to watch this team this season.
As of June 12, the Athletics are in last place in the American League West with a 26-44 record, although there have been some bright spots.
One of them is outfielder Denzel Clarke, who made waves with arguably the best home run robbery in league history.
Another bright spot has been outfielder Brent Rooker.
Through the first 70 games, Rooker is hitting .276 with 15 home runs, 41 RBI and 4 runs scored. On Wednesday night in the loss to the Los Angeles Angels, he had a pair of home runs and was a triple shy of the cycle.
After the game, Rooker spoke about his hot start, per Martin Gallegos of MLB.com.
"I’ve been able to maintain a level of consistency that maybe I haven’t in the past. I haven’t really had one of those hot streaks where I go two or three weeks and put up big numbers yet, but the production has been steady and consistent. I’ve been happy with it so far. My process is working right now. Hopefully, I can maintain the same level of production for another 100 games," Rooker said.
Rooker has bounced around a bit, including stints with the Minnesota Twins, San Diego Padres, and Kansas City Royals, before coming to the Athletics.
Prior to the season, they inked him to a five-year, $60 million extension, and he looks to be worth every penny so far.
