The New York Yankees are on the brink of elimination in the ALDS, down two games to none against the Toronto Blue Jays and facing a win-or-go-home scenario for the rest of this series.

However, that might mean it's time for New York to turn to the offseason and consider potential big moves the front office could make in the winter months.

Trade rumors heating up on Sandy Alcantara

Sandy Alcantara was a name most writers and reporters believed would be on the move at the 2025 trade deadline, but no team appeared to make a big enough move to get him. There's no way to sugarcoat it: Alcantara had a dreadful 2025 season, coming off elbow surgery. He posted a 5.36 ERA in 174.2 innings.

In a recent Bleacher Report article by writer Zachary Rymer, Alcantara is named as a good fit with the New York Yankees:

"Trade Proposal: New York Yankees get RHP Sandy Alcantara; Miami Marlins get OF Jasson Domínguez, RHP Carlos Lagrange (Yankees No. 5)"

This deal makes sense for New York to add a depth starter to its rotation that has dealt with several injuries this year, which also might be the exact reason the Yankees wouldn't make a trade like this. They will be returning Clarke Schmidt and Gerrit Cole next season.

Giving up Jasson Dominguez might be a little too big of a haul, but Alcantara does hold some worth, being that he won a CY Young award back in 2022.
