Major League Baseball clubs can never have enough depth in the minors. Recently, the New York Yankees have signed several players to minor league contracts, presumably with invitations to spring training.
The Yankees continued that trend in December, as per their transaction log, they signed right-hander Adam Kloffenstein to a minor league deal. Kloffenstein, 25, spent the 2025 season at three different levels in the Toronto Blue Jays system.
He spent most of the year at Triple-Buffalo, posting a 6.26 ERA in 19 appearances, including 16 starts. The former Blue Jays third-round draft pick walked nearly five batters (4.8) per nine innings but struck out 90 batters in 82 frames.
Just one Major League outing
Kloffenstein's Major League work consists of one inning with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2024. After starting his career with the Blue Jays, he returned to the organization last January, signing a minor league deal.
The Yankees have experienced success in finding overlooked hurlers during spring training and in the free agent market. Recent examples include Luke Weaver, Jake Cousins, and Ian Hamilton.
Kloffenstein has plenty of work to do and people to impress to make the Opening Day roster, but he could be valuable depth at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
