There’s always a price to pay for top talent in Major League Baseball, and the New York Yankees know that as well as anyone. That reality could hit this offseason again as the team figures out what to do with Cody Bellinger in the outfield. 

When Bellinger was on the field last year, he was one of the Yankees’ better players. 

Unfortunately, that also means other teams will be lining up to make a run at him. He’s well-respected around the league and is expected to command a sizable contract.

It remains unclear whether the Yankees are willing to do whatever it takes to bring Bellinger back. According to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com, that may not be the case. Hoch noted there appears to be a financial ceiling the Yankees aren’t willing to exceed.

“There's definitely a ceiling, and after seeing how last week went in Orlando, I'd brace for a real possibility that Bellinger winds up elsewhere.

“Certain teams (cough, cough, the Mets) are in need of an offseason splash and have shown willingness to go places others won't. Bellinger liked his time with the Yankees, they've made no secret of wanting him back, but let's be realistic -- when Scott Boras says there's eight teams involved, the chances of Bellinger accepting less than top dollar to come back seems like a fantasy,” he wrote.

If Bellinger plays this smart, he may wait to see what Kyle Tucker lands. 

While the two aren’t identical players, they are the top two outfielders on the market and both left-handed hitters. 

If Tucker lands a deal north of $400 million, Bellinger’s price tag could rise even further.
