The AL East is all going after the same starting pitcher.
Free agent Michael King, from the San Diego Padres, is widely sought after.
A report from Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe indicates that the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles all want King.
King previously pitched for the Yankees, mostly out of the bullpen, before being traded to the Padres in the Juan Soto deal.
The right-hander has a 3.24 ERA in his MLB career. He was at a 3.44 ERA in 2025, an injury-plagued season for him.
MLB.com summed up the pursuit like this:
The Orioles have incentive to get their hands on King, because he has excelled against them. He's 3-1 with a 2.67 ERA in 14 career games against Baltimore, including two starts. He hasn't had similar success against Boston, but the Red Sox may see him as a fit as their No. 2 starter behind Cy Young runner-up Garrett Crochet.
The Red Sox have already added Sonny Gray in a trade with the Cardinals, but the Orioles and Yankees are looking to make a splash in the starting pitching market and apparently see King as an avenue to accomplishing that.

King has a nasty, hard fastball with great tailing action to go along with a wide, bending sweeper.
As long as he stays healthy, he'll be a great signing. It'll be an even better pickup for whichever AL East team keeps him away from their rivals.
