Bo Bichette’s market continues to be one of the more interesting storylines of the offseason. While a return to Toronto still feels likely, some think the New York Yankees are quietly looming as a serious threat.
As the winter drags on, there’s a growing belief that Bichette’s free agency may not unfold the way many expected months ago.
Instead of a massive payday, Bichette could have to take a smaller deal to regain his value. Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report recently highlighted that while examining how this could ultimately play out.
“The longer this drags out, the more likely it is Bichette ends up back with Toronto on a short-term deal, as was the case with Pete Alonso re-signing with the Mets last winter. Watch out for the Yankees, though. They only have Jazz Chisholm Jr. Under contract for one more year, and there have been reports that teams have been asking what it would take for them to give him up. If they sign Bichette, they could start really listening on those Chisholm offers,” he wrote.
From the Yankees’ perspective, it’s tough to say that trading Jazz Chisholm to replace him with Bichette feels wrong.
Chisholm’s future in New York is far from settled, I get that, but why not have Chisholm and Bichette on the roster to form an elite offensive duo in the infield?
It seems to be the logical thing to do, but there feels like there’s real noise about a potential trade.
