The New York Yankees have received incredible production from Trent Grisham, which many consider a surprise.
Grisham has always had talent, but never really put things together. During the 2025 campaign for the Yankees, there's an argument made to me that he's been one of the top three hitters on the team. He's hitting .245 with 29 home runs, 61 RBIs, and 67 walks in 416 at-bats.
The issue for Grisham and the Yankees, however, is the fact that they already have a somewhat loaded outfield when everyone is healthy, and prospects are expected to come up in the near future. With guys like Spencer Jones waiting in the wings, it might be better to allow Grisham to walk.
Trent Grisham likely leaving Yankees
For Colin Keane of FanSided, that's the reason he doesn't expect the Yankees to extend a contract offer to him this winter.
“The Yankees likely aren't going to offer extensions to both Bellinger and Grisham, which makes Grisham the odd man out in New York's outfield. There’s also Spencer Jones’ recent production to consider, which foreshadows a 2026 MLB debut...
“Grisham not receiving an extension has nothing to do with his performance — the Yankees just have too many outfielders and probably can't pay close to top dollar for someone entering their age-29 season given the presence of so many other veterans,” he noted.

Not giving Grisham an offer would be somewhat questionable, as the Yankees should still view him as a better player than Jones.
In fact, the better idea is attempting to land Grisham on a cheaper deal than some expect, and moving Jones for a proven arm or a player at a different position.
Regardless, however, the Yankees seem to be in a decent spot in the outfield, so that's at least some good news for New York.
